  Penguincw: Wow.A new year baby.
Apr-08-11  spawn2: Congrats on winning the 2011 Telin Chess International Chess Championship. Am sure, your countrymen are very proud of your accomplishment. Hope to see you play in the coming SEA Games this November.
Apr-08-11  Edwin M: According to ChessBase he was born 1961. He is deaf. Learnt Karo chess, which has different rules, at the late age of 14, but switched to classical chess when his family moved to Medan in 1978. He just won the Telin International with 7.5/9.
Apr-08-11  wordfunph: grats GM Barus!

seriously, how to offer a draw to a deaf like him? sign language?

if sign language, how?

Apr-09-11  Edwin M: How about your index fingers crossed?
Apr-09-11  pulsar: <wordfunph> Good question met with equally good suggestion by <Edwin M>. :)

I know of an Indonesian master who, while not deaf, would resort to raising one index finger and crossing it with another in a repetitive cutting motion to offer a draw. :)

Apr-09-11  wordfunph: <Edwin M> <pulsar> nice..

GM Barus registered a blistering +7-1=1 clip and only one opponent offered a crossed-finger for a truce..:)

Apr-09-11  Edwin M: <wordfunph> <pulsar>

That's the way we do it at our club when we don't want to talk when there are other people still playing. Not to offer draws to eachother but asking a fellow club member how his/her game went. He/she then crosses his/her index fingers when the result is a draw.
