Teodor Ghitescu was born in Bucharest. Awarded the IM title in 1961 and an Emeritus GM title in 1986, he was Romanian Champion in 1963. He has played on a number of Romanian Olympiad teams and was 1st at the Bucharest tournament of 1976.

Feb-13-07  alshatranji: What's an Emeritus GM? I didn't know a thing like that existed.
Sep-08-07  bauernfresser: In a few cases FIDE gave a "Honorary GM" title to players whose prime time was before the regular GM title procedures were established - I think that's what's meant by "Emeritus GM".
