  Benzol: Tamaz Vasilyevich Georgadze
Born 9th November 1947 in Tbilisi
Awarded the IM title in 1975 and GM title in 1979.
Nov-09-06  Eastfrisian: He currently resigned from active chess and serves now as a trainer. I read this somewhere, but don't know for sure.

Oct-21-08  biglo: The 1946 game is wrongly dated or wrongly attributed to him
Nov-09-10  brankat: Happy Birthday GM. Georgadze!
Nov-09-10  brankat: It's almost certain that the first 23 games listed here were played by some other T.Georgadze.

- the first one was played 1 year before Tamas Georgadze was born.

- the following 22, when he was 9 and/or 12. They were all either USSR Ch. semi-finals, or finals. Since Georgadze only won the IM title in 1975, at the age of 28, it would seem highly unlikely that he participated in such prestigious events some 20 years earlier.

Nov-09-10  mike1: funny thing with his FIDE-Card....
No titles mentioned!
link: http://ratings.fide.com/fide_arbite...
Apr-14-14  zanzibar: <mike1> and biographers...

There are several Georgadze's, and Giorgadze's for that matter.

Have to be careful here, but I think this is the FIDE card that matches this GM:

http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

I have an English language (1977) book which uses <GEORGADZE>, but when I tried to find the game in RUSbase the name was <GIORGADZE, TAMAZ>, which led me to the FIDE card link above.

Q- What reference was used to determine the years he was awarded his FIDE titles?

Or rather, why doesn't FIDE clearly show this on the player's card.

Not clear even if FIDE makes this available - I don't think it's on the card, where it might be expected.

("I" before "E" he said with much glee).

Sep-04-18  Bumbelbee: He could be easily confused with Tengiz Giorgadze, so best to check multiple sources.
