Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-05-15  waustad: He attained an IM norm at Gibtel. He was the only Austrian player at the tournament it seems. I recall that Austrians usually go straight south to get out of the cold, so the south of Spain isn't as much of a draw for them as for many others. A big tournament in Greece would probably be more popular, though soon there will be a major tournament in Graz, by Austrian standards. Here is some video of him (in German): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zcu...
Dec-19-15  waustad: He is now very close to the IM title. He picked up 33.4 elo in the Zadar Open and looking at the regs, he picked up an eight game IM norm (see item 1.41c in the FIDE norm regulations), which was all he needed since he already had nine game and ten game norms. It appears that he needs a little over 10 elo more to get the title.
Dec-28-15  waustad: With a good start at the Zurich Christmas Open, he's 2.5/3 so far, he's picking up more elo.
Apr-01-16  waustad: If I read he Austrian site correctly, he just got the IM title, last week.
Dec-17-16  waustad: He has achieved his first GM norm at the Zadar Open. http://www.chess-results.com/tnr247...
Jan-29-17  waustad: His play at Gibraltar has been eye opening. Consecutive wins against 3 GMs including Kovalenko and Ivanchuk will pull his rating over the necessary 2500 and leave him in excellent position to get another GM norm. He seems to have zoomed past the Kreisl, Froewis, Schachinger, Diermair group and may soon have only Ragger to look up to in Austrian chess.

Feb-01-17  waustad: Congratulations on the second GM norm since Christmas! http://www.chess.at/
Apr-10-17  waustad: The Austrians all had good starts in the GM norm tournament in Slovakia. http://chess.sk/index.php?str=online This link is probably ephemeral. Dragnev and Kreisl both won today playing black and Shengelia drew.
Aug-12-17  waustad: He's the top rated player in this year's Austrian Championship, which is taking place now in Graz. Games are being broadcast live via chess-results.com.
Nov-21-17  waustad: So far in the U20 championship, he’s on pace for a third GM norm. http://chess-results.com/tnr305835....
Apr-30-18  waustad: Congratulations on the final GM norm, achieved in the German Bundesliga. The story is on the Austrian chess blog, http://www.chess.at
Aug-14-18  wordfunph: <waustad> is number 1 fan of GM Dragnev.
