Feb-20-17  sonia91: He has been banned from Iranian tournaments and Iranian national team, along with his sister Dorsa Derakhshani, because of this game Borna Derakhshani vs Huzman, 2017 : http://www.rferl.org/a/iran-bans-te...

Sally Simpson: Easily done if you are playing two games a day wandering about the place. There were no flags on the tables, but there were wee flags displayed on the name tags.

All in all Borna played in 3 tournaments at Gibraltar.

Here is the prize winners list.

http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.c...

Borna Derakhshani won two prizes. One in the Challengers A and another in the Challengers B.

The schedule for Challengers was 09.45 start - The Masters started at 15:00.

Borna met Alexander Huzman in round one of the Masters after beating Carsten Byrn in round two of Challengers 'A' (which started a day earlier than the Masters.)

The first round of any event is always hectic, it's possible the organiser (yes it's that man in the maroon sleeveless jersey again) missed (or the blessed machine missed ) they had paired an Israeli with an Iranian.

In the later rounds such conflict of cultures were avoided.

Sally Simpson: Borna Derakhshani has switched to the English Chess Federation (his sister is now with the USA Chess Federation Dorsa Derakhshani )

He is living in England attending a boarding school in Canterbury.

You can get the gist of the situation here without paying a sub.

Dionysius1: It's really annoying when subeditors create fake news with misleading/lying headlines.

Yes, Borna Derakhshanihas has switched to the ECF.

No, this does not mean he will play in the English team. The Times should know better with its "will play for England" headline.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Dionysius1,

You are right but as I do not subscribe to the Times site or buy the newspaper there may be further news.

As I said this is just the gist of it.

He's 15 so he could play for England in next years Glorney Cup.

His last rating is 2298 which should put him in the top 10 of u-16 English Juniors.

Dionysius1: Thanks Sally. You're right. It's so hard for me not to be a grumpy old sod now that I'm in my 60s. What? When did that happen? I was the youngest professional in the office last time I even thought about it. John Lennon is supposed to have said "Real life is what happens when you're thinking about something else". Lawks, I'm rambling now.

...but Borna was Borna Iranian?
