Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-07-14  colonel.moreau: Loren Schmidt, US senior master and multi-time Nebraska and Indiana state champion. He also won the Japan championship and represented them in the olympiad. One of my favorite players, he did much to popularize chess when I was a student at Purdue University. In addition to giving frequent lectures and writing for the state magazine, he also organized the local team for the high school and spent countless hours with club mates looking at games. Most fun were those sessions with one of my favorite dubious openings (at the time) the Latvian Gambit. He also played the Alekhine defense when almost no one else did and won from Joel Benjamin amongst others.
