  Tabanus: Aka Alan Johnston

chesshistoryinterest: That is correct ('New Zealand Chess', June 1981, page 66). He changed his first name from John a few years prior.

Tabanus: <chesshistoryinterest> I did not know that!

Anyway there's also an Allan J Johnston, and perhaps some of his games should be transferred too.

chesshistoryinterest: <Tabanus> He was a member of my club when I was in my teens and twenties. He hated his first name being the same as the first part of his surname and the jokes made about it.

Born about 1955.

<Anyway there's also an Allan J Johnston, and perhaps some of his games should be transferred too.> You are very right! The first 5 games (up to 1980) are definitely him (Alan Johnston) and should be transferred. He moved about 1980 and I lost track of him. So I cannot absolutely say the remaining games (from 1992) are not him, but I would say it is unlikely. I'm pretty sure his new name was spelt 'Alan' and not 'Allan'. And he was ethnic European, so it seems unlikely he ended up in Hong Kong (unless he married someone from there). So unless further research shows it is the same person, I would keep those remaining games separate on this page.

Tabanus: <chesshistoryinterest> I looked at the games and tried to figure out what the heck you mean, and then realized that Annie must have transferred them already :)
