Tabanus: "Andrews Newspaper Index Cards" in Anc. com has a scanned death notice that he died in Friern Hospital in New Southgate 4 Sep 1961. Below is handwritten notice "son of John McGuire, commercial clerk & Mary --- Monach. Born 22.11.1881 at 3 Granville Square ... Holborn ...". Probably our man.

MissScarlett: <L. F. Maguire> [sic] is named as one of four who defeated Lasker in his simultaneous display at the Kent County Chess Association congress in Sevenoaks, April 20th 1908, by the <Kent & Sussex Courier>, April 24th, p.11. They report it as a 30-board affair (+22 -4 =4), although page 2 of the same edition claims it was 29 (+20 -4 =5). I lean toward the latter as it appears in the regular chess column, and all nine who avoided loss are identified (inc. <T. F. McGuire> [sic]). <Whyld (1998)>, unhelpfully, gives the score as +20 -1 =5.
