Jun-18-24  BebeReno93: Besides his achivements related to his age, the playing style of Faustino is uncommon at his age considered that the positional skills re most remarkable that tactical ones in him, who like every Prodigy, re tactically exceptional. Independently if he achive the record or not, is an unique prospect that Will have a relevant rol on the future of Chess.

Sally Simpson: Earlier today a spokesman for FIDE stated that the World Junior Chess Championship has been cancelled. The reason being there is no longer any point because everyone expects that soon the adult World Final will most likely be contested between two 14 years olds.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Willie Bob,

From now on all FIDE tournaments will be held during the school holidays.

---

Maybe the 'Maradona of Chess' would be more apt due to the name 'Oro' Early in Maradona's career he was given the nickname 'El Pibe de Oro' (The Golden Boy) and both were born in October in Buenos Aires.

POI. Messi's nickname given to him at an early age was 'La Pulga' (the flea).

My nickname when I play OTB these days is 'The Georgie Best of Chess' because I dribble all over the board.

FSR: There are no superlatives sufficient to describe him. Youngest IM ever, at age 10 2/3! What?? Possibly soon to become the youngest GM ever. After that - world champion? "Chessi," indeed.

Williebob: Chess might be the very best way of demonstrating the awesome capacity for young human minds to absorb information and synthesize new kinds of thinking; prodigies having fun with their gifts is something to behold!

I have thought for a while now that the computer's role in this game is a win for humans. Faustino evidently learned online, presumably with some engine checks to tell him where he went wrong, game after game. We can only expect more chess prodigies to arrive this way. Computers can make us smarter.

Puffery aside: <Sally>, I just saw your "Georgie Best of Chess" remark and I might require a new computer monitor now, hehe :) The coffee was good too.

Pretty much. Gukesh, 18, could have played in this year's World Junior (under-21) Championship, but was too busy preparing for the big World Championship.

alexmagnus: Tal, in his preface to a 1979 book of Karpov's chosen games (the book itself being written by Karpov), described it as an extraordinary achievement that Karpov won World Juniors before finishing high school.

I wonder what he would say if someone told him in 45 years there will be a player who becomes (adult) world champion at an age where he still could be in high school (Gukesh, though, didn't even go to school after the elementary stage).

We were playing the French; in fact a McCutcheon.
I'd been following a game by the Rio boy, Faustino Oro.
I had half an eye on an episode of <Starsky & Hutch>, and
I was drinking a negroni, and she had a Sapporo.
That was when I saw her armorial escutcheon.
I took a selfie! and I'll send it to you tomorrow.
It's an unusual coat of arms, the woman's name in a lozenge,
A shield, red, <argent> in a field of orange.
