Dec-30-07  Steve Case: My brother lost $5 to Charles Weldon sometime in the '50s. Weldon hustled him with the claim that two knights were better than the Queen. So with $5 on the table my brother played without the Knights and Weldon without the Queen.

Aug-29-08  jerseybob: Was Charles Weldon a Baltic emigree? Could someone fill in a little bio info?

Stonehenge: Although that game against Tal stinks. A 10 year old going from Wisconsin to Vilnius? Hmm...

In "Complete Games of Mikhail Tal 1936-1959" (Batsford 1980), p.3, Hilary Thomas gives <Tal's> opponent in this game as "Weldrou."

In the "Mikhail Tal - 8th World Champion" (PC-CD) database, Khalifman et al give <Tal's> opponent as "Vedrov."

That actually sounds close to "Welrou" eh?

This player isn't Charles Weldon, who was a 10 year old growing up in <Wisconsin> when the game vs. <Tal> on this page was played in Estonia, in 1949.

According to the Charles Weldon bio.
