Awarded the Grandmaster title in 1997. Champion of Estonia in 2000. Represented Estonia in the chess Olympiads from 1992 through 2002. Coach and second to Alexey Shirov. Participated in the 2000 FIDE World Chess Championship, but knocked out in the first round by Etienne Bacrot. Peak Elo rating: 2565 in 2000. He is also a FIDE Senior Trainer (2011).
