Ron: Came across this player by chance. He seemed to do quite well against the top American chess players of the 1940s and 1950s, for example, here H Evans vs Fine, 1943
Dec-29-06  Resignation Trap: Henry Evans was primarily a correspondence player. He played games #4 and #5 in the list, and perhaps #1 and #2. I'm pretty certain that the remaining games were played by (future) GM Larry Melvyn Evans .
Oct-01-08  AnalyzeThis: Wow! This guy was a strong player! Two wins over Rueben Fine!

Phony Benoni: I wouldn't get excited about those wins over Fine. He wasn't playing in serious tournaments at the time, so they were likely exhibitions or simuls. Fine was also experimenting with blindfold rapid transit (10 seconds per move) at the time, and these may have been two of those games.
Feb-04-12  hdevans: Henry D Evans played #1 - #9 of those games. It was not Larry Melvyn Evans. Lived in Washington, D.C. in the 40's and then in New York. And Henry D Evans was playing in serious tournaments at that time.
