Chessical: Diez del Corral became the second ever Spanish player to become a grandmaster (the first being the child-prodigy Arturo Pomar-Salamanca).

He played for Spain in seven Olympiads, and nine times in the Clare Benedict tournaments scoring 58% in each. He was also a strong blitz player.

He retired from competitive chess in 1986. I believe that his first international tournament game was

Ivkov vs J Diez del Corral, 1955

and his last was against the same opponent

Ivkov vs J Diez del Corral, 1983

He also regularly wrote articles and composed studies, despite the demands of his professional life as a lawyer specialising in property law.

Aug-23-10  Dredge Rivers: I used to work at the Jesus Diez Corral!
Sep-27-17  Nonnus: In 1974, Jesus Diez del Corral, Gyozo Forintos, Vlastimil Jansa, Bojan Kurajica, Anatoly Lutikov, Gergio Mariotti, Gyula Sax, Jan Timman, and Eugenio Torre became GMs.
