John Saunders: I'm not convinced John Toothill had a middle name. Statutory birth records show him simply as John Toothill. I'm wondering whether the "A" crept in as a result of confusion with his younger brother Andrew (born 1944) who also seems not to have had a middle name.

Stonehenge: <He was taken ill on November 21, while in the middle of a game at the Windermere club.

"The guy he was playing chess with offered him a draw in the ambulance," Dr Jane Toothill said. "But he was doing well and he said no.">
