GrahamClayton: Could this be Menelaos Dimitri Hassialis, who was a consultant to the US atomic program during WW2?

Jun-08-15  zanzibar: He shows up as a member of the Columbia Chess Club in 14 November 1929 issue of <The Columbia Spectator>:

http://spectatorarchive.library.col...

He also played Capablanca as a member of YMCA West team in 1931, and as a team member against Alekhine in 1932.

According to the obituary given by <GC>:

<He received a B.S. in physics and chemistry in 1931 and an M.A. in physics from the University.>

which matches with the Spectator article. So that's essentially a 100% match given the game, etc.
