Lord Arthur Hay (1824-1878) became the ninth Marquess of Tweeddale (Scotland) in 1876. The marquisate was born in 1694. Until 1862 it was known as Lord Hay and from 1862 to 1876 as Viscount Walden. In the English army he started as a Lieutenant (1841) of the First Grenadier Regiment and then became Captain (1846) and Lieutenant Colonel (1854) and finally Colonel (1860). Lord Hay served in India and the Crimean War. Lord Arthur Hay, "president of the Royal Zoological Society and well-known ornithologist", wrote "Notes on birds collected in Tenasserim and Andamant Islands" (the record of zoological literature, vol. 3 1866) and had a private collection of birds, insects, reptiles , mammals. He was President of the Zoological Society of London from 1868. He served on the organizing committee of the 1851 International Tournament in London.
