Apr-25-07  Judah: This guy has an unusual opening named after him.

alexmagnus: Yes... 1.h4, though it's not always named after him (some people name it after the former Soviet correspondence player Steinbock who played nothing but 1.h4 with white).
Sep-23-08  Katu: and 1.h4 has an alternative name: Evans Blast-off.

Kadas was the man who developed it into an opening. He even beated good IMs with it.

If you want to see more gaes from him (many with 1.h4) then go

http://eurochess.hu/modules.php?nam...

type "kadas", fill in first 2 checkboxes then hit "keresés".

Near the bottom of the result page you can see a link "A kadas kifejezésre talált pgn állomány letöltése".

Click on it and a zipfile with all the resulted games coming.

Aug-20-09  WhiteRook48: 1. h4 is good if the black player always castles kingside
Dec-29-09  Messiah: He had been passed away last year. I played him. He was a massive smoker and he drunk a lot.
Apr-03-10  whiteshark: <Messiah> Are you from Hungary, too?

smurph: 365chess as usual has a much bigger database of his games
May-11-17  zanzibar: 1.h4 is quite playable, especially if Black tries to "punish" White.

Black probably shouldn't allow White to open the h-file, and instead aim for slow-play gaining a modest Q-side advantage. Castling K-side for Black is OK too, especially if Black does a full-blown, though cautious, Q-side pawn advance.

There is no narrow play here - 1.h4 is surprisingly non-committal for White.

.

May-11-17  zanzibar: <katu> I looked on the web, but there's seemingly nobody calling 1.h4 the Evans' Blast-Off opening.

Your post is the solitary hit doing a google search on the term.

May-12-17  zanzibar: Wait a minute - <CG> doesn't have any Kadas Kadases!?

Alas for (the) Kadas.

Mar-09-19  arthurp: I emailed the Hungarian Chess Federation and they said Kadas never held a FIDE title. He definetly was of IM strength!
