|Oct-29-04|| ||Knight13: This guy is too good. Masterpiece. Attacker. Defender. It's like every strategy he plays is good. |
I say he was a very good player.
|Oct-31-04|| ||Ron: This is the first time I have heard of this player.
In the database, Leussen has wins against Duras, Nimzowitsch, Max Lange, and Reti, and a draw against Marshall.
Does anyone know more about this player? |
|Oct-31-04|| ||sneaky pete: <Ron> Go to http://www.endgame.nl/seaside.htm. |
|Oct-31-04|| ||Knezh: If his record spanned over years circa 2000s, i'd assume its Benjamin Lau :) |
|Oct-31-04|| ||Honza Cervenka: Leussen was quite strong player from Netherland, probably the best before Max Euwe or at least the most successful. For example, he played in Barmen 1905 and Scheveningen 1905. |
|Sep-21-05|| ||Eastfrisian: Benjamin Leussen was born on April 30, 1876 in Kampen and died April 19, 1924 in Hertogenbosch. First he lived in Leiden and studied medicine, but later he became a teacher.|
His best result was in Scheveningen 1905. Marshall won, but he finished as second ahead of Spielmann, Duras, Swiderski, Loman, Leonhardt, Reggio, te Kolsté, Shories, Bleykmans, Oskam, Esser and Trimborn.
He later lost his interest in chess and retired.
|Jul-28-10|| ||GrahamClayton: Leussen finished third behind Leonhardt and Duras at the Hilversum tournament in 1903.|
|Feb-08-11|| ||Phony Benoni: Photograph: http://books.google.com/books?id=RL...|
Plus a detailed article, if your Dutch is up to snuff.
|Apr-30-16|| ||TheFocus: Didn't Nabakov write about this guy's defense?|
|Jul-16-18|| ||ughaibu: <He later lost his interest in chess and retired.> |
Any further details about this? He must've been pretty young, still, at the time of this retirement.
