KENNETH ROGOFF
(born Mar-22-1953, 67 years old) United States of America

[what is this?]

Kenneth Saul Rogoff learned chess from his father at age six, but only took up the game in earnest when he received a chess set for his 13th birthday. He was soon recognised as a chess prodigy. By age 14, he was a USCF master and New York State Open Champion, and shortly thereafter became a senior master, the highest US national title. At sixteen, Rogoff dropped out of high school to concentrate on chess, and spent the next several years living primarily in Europe and playing in tournaments there. When eighteen, he made the decision to go to college and pursue a career in economics rather than to become a professional player, although he continued to play and improve for several years afterward.

Rogoff was awarded the IM title in 1974 and the GM title in 1978. He came third in the World Junior Championship of 1971 and finished second in the US Championship of 1975, which doubled as a Zonal competition, one-half point behind Walter Shawn Browne this result qualified him for the 1976 Interzonal at Biel, where he finished 13-15th. In other tournaments he finished equal first at Norristown 1973 and Orense 1976.

Early in his economics career, Rogoff served as chief economist at the International Monetary Fund and also at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He is currently the Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University.

No I was referring to the populations of the U.S. and China, not the total globe. Also India rounds out the medal winners contributing to pollution.

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-ta...

I was admittedly wrong about the population in the United states decreasing, there are projected to be 100 million more by 2100. I for some reason assumed that boomer death would decrease the total number for the U.S.

My question about the sum population of the worlds current three largest polluters will be less in 100 years than it is now.

It's not a question of "enough" it's a question of the accuracy of the models ability to predict the specific ways climate change will affect the globe.

The hell on earth map I see where the entire U.S. is a desert is based on a 4 degree average increase, but within the next 100 years, I've read that an increase of under 2 degrees is feasible.

But I'm not sure of that modeling takes into account methane release form melting ice etc.

Feb-18-20  devere: "Virus Kills Chinese Film Director and Family in Wuhan"

By Vivienne Chow

https://variety.com/2020/film/asia/...

Things are really bad in China. To try to stay alive in a viral epidemic I suggest 5000 IU of vitamin D-3 daily to strengthen the immune system, and Livon labs lipospheric vitamin C to attack the virus. For those not familiar with the effect of vitamin C on viruses, I suggest searching on "Allan Smith flu" for the story of how one New Zealand dairy farmer's life was saved.

Feb-18-20  Bobsterman3000: Mayo Pete Buttigieg breaks out very poor Spanish on the campaign travel and says to illegal immigrants:

He also promised illegal immigrants government healthcare.

THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS - YOUR DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS TELLING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS THAT THE USA IS "THEIR COUNTRY".

I'm shocked, shocked, shocked.

Feb-18-20  devere: <it's a question of the accuracy of the models ability to predict the specific ways climate change will affect the globe.>

Since the IPCC climate models have so far failed to correctly predict anything, anyone who relies on them to predict going forward is relying on religious faith, not science.

I think that there is a reasonable chance that average temperatures may be -1 degrees Celsius over next 35 years due to low sunspot activity. I hope I live that long to find out for sure!

saffuna: <We celebrate your belonging in this country and, yes, this country is your country too.">

That comment is directed to Dreamers. It is not directed toward all illegal immigrants.

All the Democratic candidates support a path to citizenship for Dreamers.

Feb-18-20  Bobsterman3000: **** Psycholib hypocrite Californians don't tend to worry about open borders as they just use NIMBY building regulations to keep poor illegal immigrants far from them and their pricey neighborhoods.

saffuna: <"We celebrate your belonging in this country and, yes, this country is your country too.">

Can you point me to where Buttigieg said that, in Spanish or in English?

I heard him say something similar in Spanish, but it was directed toward the Latino community, not illegals.

Feb-18-20  Bobsterman3000: To the looneys running about celebrating that Andrew McCabe was not prosecuted recently - the <independent> Inspector General report from February 2018 asserts that he clearly LIED to investigators. The investigation was led by Obama-appointed Michael Horowitz.

https://oig.justice.gov/reports/201...

The DoJ declined to pursue charges partly based on the small likelihood that any punishment could stick.

It's clearly that he lied.

And BTW, that internal probe on Andrew McCabe was launched ONE WEEK BEFORE TRUMP TOOK OFFICE.

This is just another <Saffuna-like> "b-b-bbut Bill Clinton wasn't <<convicted!!>>> kind of moment for snowflakery here. You people screech about lying all the time and then make yourselves look foolish celebrating McCabe getting off the hook.

saffuna: If Barr could indict any of the McCabe-Strzok-Comey group, you know he would. He has not been able to.

The people indicted and convicted are Trump people.

Feb-18-20  Bobsterman3000: < saffuna: Just slide right by your error there, <bob>.>

You are still butthurt and struggling for a gotcha, as always. Sure, he did say that to dreamers, a subset of illegal immigrants in the eyes of Democrats. But nevertheless they are still ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

The law does NOT distinguish between the two - you are full of crap, as usual. You're either an illegal immigrant or you're not.

Giving Dreamers any path to citizenship through executive order was a highly unconstitutional move by Obama.

And if you are a dreamer this is NOT "your country" as you are here illegally.

That's a fact. He just told illegal immigrants that this is "their country".

And it's not.

Feb-18-20  Bobsterman3000: <saffuna: If Barr could indict any of the McCabe-Strzok-Comey group, you know he would. He has not been able to.>

Look over there!!

Now you're trying to gloss over the fact that you trumpeted McCabe getting off the hook - even after an INDEPENDENT PROBE BY AN OBAMA APPOINTEE clearly stated that he lied to internal investigators.

Give it up. Typical <Bartle> hypocrisy.

And if the anti-Trumpers and their liberal allies in the State Department, FBI and DoJ could just make up evidence to power fake investigations of Trump, they would.

And, lo and behold, - they did via the <dossier>.

  theagenbiteofinwit: <devere>

The first climate map I saw had everything around the equator as far as the northern U.S. as a complete desert.

I looked it up, and it was a projection of the world after a 4 degree average increase. We'd have to more than double our carbon emissions to reach that point.

There are a lot of possibilities that models don't account for. I haven't seen population shifts/changes in many of them.

If there was a global initiave to plant a trillion trees that could change things greatly.

So could a nuclear winter.

Lots of more viable options than Ms. Thunberg's suggeston of the regression of civilization.

al wazir: <theagenbiteofinwit: I've read that an increase of under 2 degrees is feasible.> By "feasible," do you mean it's something we can live with? The planet, and life on it, have survived worse. I think that it's highly undesirable, definitely harmful, though not quite catastrophic, and it's almost inevitable. But, as I said previously, global warming won't stop there unless mankind takes concerted action to stop it. I'm not optimistic.

<But I'm not sure of that modeling takes into account methane release form melting ice etc.> No, there are a lot of uncertainties. Methane release from clathrates, burning or slow oxidation of peat deposits, and the roles played by clouds are among them.

No prediction that spans 100 years can be trusted. They're just extrapolations of current trends, indicative at best. How many features of today's world can you point to that were undreamed of a century ago? Some candidates: drones, smartphones, self-driving cars, satellite navigation; antibiotics, in vitro conception, CAT scans, positron emission tomography, organ replacement; broad-spectrum herbicides, genetic engineering, automated farm equipment; nuclear generation of electricity, factory robots, container ships. And that leaves out the twists and turns of economic and political history.

In fact, it wouldn't have been easy to forecast the world of today even ten years ago.

HeMateMe: Bob supports illegal Asian immigrants. He never says a bad word about them.

Bob, how many foreign languages does <Donald Trump> speak? He can't even fill out a golf scorecard without cheating on it.

It's <mayor Mike> time! Bloomy has risen in the polls, 19% in Nevada! That's just below Bernie Sanders at 26%, something like that. This should be a good debate, the first one for Bloomberg. I don't think it will crater down into one of those loud, earlier ones, which Amy Klobuchar called "a food fight."

Bloomy ran NYC for 12 years and did a great job. Success everywhere. a huge financial success, the guy is self-made, worked his way through college. He'll destroy Trump on the debate stage, should it end up that way.

I think Biden might be on the way out. mike B might be getting the middle votes that Biden was counting on. He'll also get some of the urbane, upper middle class votes that Trump got. Why? because he's not a white collar criminal like Trump is. No horrible, embarrassing stories in the news. Bloomy is thin and fit, unlike the borderline obese Trump. I like Mike.

But, he DOES have to do well on the debate stage in Nevada. And, he can't be dragged into mud slinging, yet cant be stand offish either, like it was some sort of Rules of Robert Ivy League debate match. Bernie is going to get in his face. Bloomberg will have to punch back, but in a dignified way. Voters will want to see some passion. Should be interesting.
