[what is this?]

FIDE Master.

In 1957, playing in the semifinal group from Craiova, Tr. Stanciu managed to enter the select group of finalists for the Romanian championship. Thus, at the border between 1957 and 1958, at the 21st edition of the individual national championships, Traian Stanciu entered in his record his first participation in a national final. At the beginning of 1958 we find him in the Constructorul team, a colleague of Victor Ciocâltea, and later, in July 1958, he is part of the Romanian team in the match with Poland played at Polanica Zdroj (score 29 - 35).

July 1961: silver medal with the RATB team in the national team championship, and Tr. Stanciu achieves 2.5 / 4 points.

In 1962 he missed the final qualification, losing in the last round of the semi-final to Bondoc. But the following year, Tr. Stanciu wins one of the 4 semifinal groups and qualifies for the final of the national championship.

Disputed between December 1-22, 1963 in Bucharest, the final of the national championship would bring Traian Stanciu the bronze medal (2-3 place tied with V. Ciocâltea; the title went to Th. Ghițescu) and the best ranking in the 15 individual national finals in which he participated.

He played in about 50 tournaments, of which 10 where international, winning victories in Bucharest 1962 (1-2 place), Bucharest 1966, Bacau 1972 (1-2), Suceava 1980 and in the international tournament: Satu Mare 1981 (1st place) 3).

He was part of the Romanian team in the tournament counting for Qualification Group no. 3, during the preliminaries of the 3rd edition of the "European Cup", played in Sinaia, in August 1964, when Romania qualified for the final in 2nd place. Almost normally, it also participated in the final in June 1965, Hamburg of the European Team Chess Championship - 3rd edition, where he achieved a reasonable percentage of 45% (+2 = 5 -3).

Member of the Romanian national team in the Havana Olympics, 1966 achieves a remarkable result of 57.1% (+3 = 2 -2) as a reserve 2.
