Feb-11-12  King Death: < waustad: His loss today drops him below 2700 on the live rating list.>

Vallejo's life is over, he might as well pack it in.

Feb-11-12  twinlark: That's true, isn't it? Any 2700 that loses his Mojo and drops below that magic level should seek advice from Dr Kevorkian, who could also dispense it to other losers like Bacrot, Vachier-Lagrave, Eljanov, Short, Movsesian and a stack of others.

Why do they hang around?

Feb-11-12  twinlark: Not to mention Karpov.

Mar-02-12  nummerzwei: His games playing the French as black are amazing. Very inspirational.
Aug-21-12  LoveThatJoker: Happy 30th Birthday, GM Paco!

Oct-10-12  wallytherhino: I get the feeling he does well against almost all competition except for the super GMs. He is brought into some tournaments as non threatening rank holder. He reminds of those boxers who get bloated reputations because they beat up club level and/or B level talent and then whn faced with an equal they get kicked back down. the best phrase for Paco is Gate Keeper.
Oct-13-12  dx9293: Is it true Vallejo has announced his retirement after the Bilbao tournament?
Oct-13-12  GilesFarnaby: <dx9293: Is it true Vallejo has announced his retirement after the Bilbao tournament?>

A temporary one, at least, yes.

'Tho he mentioned two compromises (the Bundesliga being one of them) that he will honour since he has already signed up.

Oct-14-12  Karpova: While his result (+0 -4 =6) was not good, he can be satisfied with his play though as he got an advantageous position against Aronian and a winning one against Karjakin (scoring =1 -1 out of these two games only).
Oct-20-12  waustad: Soo much for retirement. He's playing in the Bundesliga today. He beat Sune Berg Hansen in a closed Ruy Lopez.

Eyal: As <GilesFarnaby> already noted, he mentioned in his "retirement speech" at the end of Bilbao that before he stops playing completely he's going to respect a few remaining commitments, such as some Bundesliga games.

ketchuplover: Hope he has a soothing retirement :)
Oct-30-12  Caissanist: His retirement isn't going to start for a while, since he'll be playing in the world cup next summer.
Dec-14-12  waustad: He's doing quite well in the Bundesliga so maybe he'll reconsider. maybe he just needs to take a year off like van Wely did. Being the Bilbao punching bag can't be all that much fun, but like van Wely, except for Tata A or Bilbao sorts of tournaments he'd be a formidable player.
Jun-10-13  Layson: Murmurs of a Vallejo Pons retirement have been grossly exagerated, it seems. He's been playing everywhere for 2 months now.
Apr-14-14  waustad: He's playing in the Bangkok Open now and is one of the leaders so far starting out at 4/4. The top boards are on chessbomb, and probably elsewhere, for those up at that hour. http://chess-results.com/tnr130151....
