Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-01-06  aw1988: Oh dear. VIVA ZLATKO!!
Apr-01-06  jamesmaskell: Not quite as successful as Topalov mind you...
Apr-01-06  Jim Bartle: He's got to have some wins to get to 2530...
Apr-01-06  Prugno: Very suspicious wins... this gentleman was hardly stronger than 2300 for most of his career, then suddenly he plays in 3 or 4 tournaments in his home region, inviting a number of players not known for their moral scruples on these matters, and ends up with a couple of GM norms and a 2500+ rating. If FIDE acted in the Crisan case, why shouldn't they do so in this one as well?
Apr-02-06  EricCartman: He had 2251 in the year 2002...??
Apr-02-06  erasmus: check here for his rating changes during the years.

http://www.fide.com/ratings/id.phtm...

It says that in one month time he gained 175 rating points. After that he played a few (22) more games after which he seems to have retired from chess.

Apr-02-06  Jim Bartle: Assuming this is true, it's another example that with the Internet and a million eyes watching everything, it's tougher to get away with cheating or deception.

A candidate for Congress in California had been claiming conditions in Baghdad were much safer and calmer than the media were portraying. So he put up a picture from his last trip of the bustling streets of Baghdad, with nobody looking at all worried.

Well, within a day bloggers on the Internet had not only questioned the photo, but had found another photo of the same street, and it was in a suburb of Istanbul!! The politician had to apologize for the photo, blaming it on his webmaster, of course.

That just wouldn't have happened ten or fifteen years ago.

Jun-30-07  acirce: Well, what do you expect from a guy with this name?
