Anupama Gokhale, nee Abhyankar, born in Bombay on May 17, 1969, is a chess master from India. She was awarded the Women’s International Master title in 1985. She married chess master Raghunandan Gokhale, chairman of the Mumbai Chess Association and Anupama’s coach. In 1988, she played board 2 for India in the Women's Chess Olympiad. In 1990, she played board 1 for India in the Women's Chess Olympiad. Gokhale has won the women's championship of India 5 times (1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1997). She won the Asian Women's Chess Championship in 1985 and 1987. In 1990, she won the Arjun Award, given by the government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in National sports.
