World U18 Champion (1999); Grandmaster (2007).

Kokarev won the U18 world championship at Oropesa del Mar (Spain) in 1999 and then came 5th in the Russian Junior Championship of 2002. He was 9th in the Chigorin Memorial 2004 where he won his 1st GM norm, 10th in Moscow Open 2005 where he won his 2nd GM norm, 7th in Voronezh Master Open 2007, and 12th in Chigorin Memorial 2007. He won the strong third edition of the Mumbai Mayor's Cup. He won the “Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial” Stage of Russian Chess Cup Men 2013 in January 2013 and in October 2013 he placed =1st (2nd on tiebreak behind Pavel Eljanov) at the Chigorin Memorial (2013) with 7/9.

Jun-11-10  Don Cossacks: GM Dmitry Kokarev takes Mumbai Mayor's Cup

The third edition of the Mumbai Mayor's Cup chess tournament started on 2nd June and continued over eleven rounds of Swiss system until 10th June. The event, organised by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by the Bombay Chess Association, took place at the Goregaon Sports Club.

Russian Grandmaster Dmitry Kokarev won the exhausting tournament by collecting nine points from eleven games. He took up the sole lead in round seven, after beating Argentinian GM Anton Kovalyov, and rebuffed all attacks of his opponents in the remaining games.
