Apr-09-06  Karpova: Olga Zimina is playing for Italy now and crowded Elena Sedina out of being italy's best female chessplayer. She's a WGM/IM and was born in 1982.
Dec-21-07  Karpova: Olga Zimina lives in italy and plays for Italy because she's married to Gian Marco Marinelli and together they do have a little daughter.

Here's a picture of the family:

Gian Marco Marinelli was born in 1971 and has a rating of 1992.

Jun-14-15  waustad: She won her first round game in the Mitropa Cup against Sarah Hoolt to give the Italian team a match win over Germany. This game piqued my interest when I looked at the webcam broadcast since there was a lot of discussion going on between the players and the arbiter. After a period of time where the arbiter and players were moving pieces around and gesticulating with score sheets and such, the arbiter plugged the clock back in and they resumed play. All games can be found via chess-results.com.
Aug-04-15  sonia91: Olga won the Russian Women's Championship in 2001, held in Elista, with 6.5/9: http://www.chessib.com/w1res.html

She was a member of the Russian women's team at the China-Russia matches in 2001 and in 2004: http://cluster003.ovh.net/~bartelsk...

She has been playing for Italy since 2006.

Dec-12-17  sonia91: She just became the new Italian women's champion. It was her first participation at the Italian women's championship, which had for the first time a decent prize fund, so the strongest female players were all taking part.

WannaBe: Are you saying, that women in Italy only play for money?
Dec-13-17  sonia91: No, I'm saying in previous years the prize fund was not high enough to attract the strongest players (i.e. Zimina and Sedina).
Dec-13-17  nok: There had to be a wittier answer.
