Aug-12-09  Knight13: Possibly the same guy as I Hatem.

  OBIT: Great match-up in that drawn game in the list, then: Zamit! I Hatem!
Jun-02-13  Abdel Irada: This player's name appears to be in the wrong order. Ibrahim is usually a given (first) name rather than a family name or cognomen.

Jun-02-13  Karpova: His FIDE player card gives <Hatim> as fore- and <Ibrahim> as surname also: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...
Jun-02-13  Abdel Irada: Hmm. Most curious. I suppose it's possible, but curious even so.

  jnpope: Interesting that he gives his name as:

<Hatem Sayed Ibrahim>

But the link he gives to his FIDE card gives:

<Hatim Ibrahim>

Dec-19-24  stone free or die: Normally it's safest to just follow FIDE.

But FIDE has been known to make mistakes (typos and more serious), and I know that <Tab> actually wrote to them once and got a correction entered.

(How he did this, in detailed fashion, I don't know, but it was official)

It's easy to understand how mistakes can happen for a player whose native language doesn't even use Roman script - they might not even notice the misspelling, and likely check the FIDE id more carefully when matching results.

PS- where/what are the sources for the "correct" name?

Check/read his chess.com page. He gives his full name in English for his Facebook page.

Dec-20-24  stone free or die: I wouldn't have changed the "official" name. Instead, I would have noted the alternative spelling and referenced the relevant sources (chess.com and his facebook page).

Now <CG> is nonconforming versus wikipedia, chessbase, 365chess, chesstempo and fide.

Let me ask this - if Ibrahim isn't bothered by his (possibly incorrect) name on his FIDE card, why should <CG> be?

(For instance, Vishy is incorrect, but Anand isn't bothered by it, and its usage is now universal)
