Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-22-08  sneaky pete: This is Heinrich Fränkel (or Fraenkel, if the Umlaut is a problem), who under the nom de plume <Assiac> wrote <Adventure in Chess> and <The Delights of Chess>.
Aug-22-08  whiteshark: "For surely of all the drugs in the world, Chess must be the most permanently pleasurable."

--Assiac

Feb-18-12  Infohunter: Always wondered who "Assiac" really was. Now I know.

HeMateMe: He invented the Heinrich maneuver. Good man.
Feb-18-12  M.D. Wilson: Careful, HeMateMe, Interpol might find you for that slight.
Aug-30-12  Tiggler: Assiac, as a chess writer, never hinted at his own prowess as a player. His win here against Prieswerk is very nice. Prieswerk was no patzer: he has two games in the archive against Alekhine. One draw and one win.
Feb-17-13  Tiggler: I met Mr. Fraenkel in 1956, when I was eleven years old. He gave me a signed copy of <Adventure in Chess>, which is a great book, and I remember him as a very nice man.

<HeMateMe>, correct, a very good man. It won't be Interpol that gets you, but Mossad. Heinrich was known for his early research and publications about the Nazis responsible for the Holocaust.

Nov-02-24  Mathematicar: I just read Fraenkel's foreword to the "Capablanca's Last Lectures" (1966). I think he deserves more credit as a chess writer already!
Nov-02-24  stone free or die: <<Tiggler> ... he has two games in the archive against Alekhine. One draw and one win.>

Wonder what happened to the Alekhine games?

Nov-02-24  stone free or die: I guess the archive referred to wasn't <CG>?

https://web.archive.org/web/2011092...

I checked Wayback in 2011-2013, and Assiac only had two, non-Alekhine, games in <CG>.

<Tiggler> still is around now and then, I think, perhaps he can tell us what archive he's referring to?
