pawn to QB4: Congratulations to Mike Alcock on leading his Chesterfield outfit to the top of the Sheffield League and also the Derby & District League: he solved the dilemma of which to join by persuading his club to join both. There's a lot on the site about famous players, so I trust nobody minds a brief mention of a local man. An impeccable model of the gentleman player without a hint of old fashioned stuffiness, Mike (currently 2150, previously considerably higher) normally has to take on higher rated players while his collection of 2000s beat up their teammates. His perseverance in doing this has led to their unique achievement above, and there's been many a time that he's shown youth and talent to be no match for long experience and...more talent. Any concerns for the future of his club he bats away with "well, chess'll see me out". Not for many years yet I hope.
