GrahamClayton: Charles Maddigan (b. 1953-present) was a student at the University of California (Berkeley) who gave up his studies to concentrate full-time on chess.

When Boris Spassky gave a 41 board simultaneous exhibition in New York on the 4th of February 1974, his only loss was to Maddigan. He later moved to Indiana, where he became a master with a 2300+ ELO rating.
