Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-14-09  sneaky pete: Wilhelm Piegeler was maybe the first (!) practitioner of what Thomas Johansson dubbed the <Sorgenfri Gambit>. In the king's knight gambit, after 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 white unleashes 5.Nd4!! .. and sheds the burden of established theory of the Kieseritzky and Allgaier lines. After 5... d5 6.exd5 .. Johansson analyses 6... Qxd5 7.Qe2+ ... etc.

In a correspondence game from 1995, Piegelers opponent played 6... Bg7 and the game continued 7.Qe2+ Ne7 8.Nb3 .. (8.Qb5+ .. is critical) 8.. O-O 9.Qc4 Nxd5 10.Nc3 Re8+ 11.Kf2 g3+ 12.Kf3 .. (a truly Steinitzian king) 12... h5 13.Qxd5 Bg4+ 14.Kxf4 Be5+ 0-1.
