  perfidious: John's rating here does not reflect his true strength; he attained a USCF rating near 2400.

We met four times; I won the first two and he levelled the score at one of our invitationals held by Olin Forman in Antrim, New Hampshire in spring 1980.

John was a low-key, pleasant man away from the board while tough and aggressive when sitting opposite.
