Mar-20-13  waustad: Several more pictures:

Mar-25-13  waustad: She had an awful tournament in Vietnam recently dropping 17.5 elo.
Apr-16-13  waustad: A win in the first round in the Chinese Championships is a good start. Maybe she can get back some of the elo she lost in Vietnam.
Jun-02-13  waustad: She's playing in a tournament in China now. I read no Chinese but these links can give some more information:

Most of the usual information available on a chess-results site is missing here, but the pairings/results seems to work.

Jun-06-13  waustad: As one of the lowest rated players in the tournament she's doing reasonably well at +2=1-2, but at the moment Gunina is very close to crushing her, if my patzer's eyes tell me true.
Jun-09-13  waustad: She drew the rest of her games. It is a little confusing looking at the results site because the pairings results are up to date, but the cross table and such are 3 rounds behind.
Jul-09-13  waustad: She is crushing Ana Vitoria de Paula Rothebarth at the University Games in Kazan.
Jan-23-14  waustad: Happy 25th b'day!
Mar-11-14  waustad: The Chinese Championship begins today. In the first round Yang Shen drew with Lei Tingjie, who seems to have ended her European sojourn after playing in tournaments in Austria and France.
Mar-21-14  waustad: Starting the penultimate round, Yang Shen is almost out of contention for the Chinese Women's championship being behind both Lei Tingjie and Ju Wenjun. In this round she'll be white against Tan Zhongyi, her last oponent who out-rates her. The results of the game between the leaders will be quite interesting with Ju Wenjun certainly going for a win with white.
Mar-22-14  waustad: She came in second with +5 at the Chinese Championships (women), helf a point behind Ju Wenjun.
Mar-23-14  waustad: If the wiki page is right her family name is Shen not Yang, so by Chinese convention she really is Shen Yang, not Yang Shen.
May-13-14  waustad: She's playing Ju Wenjun right now: or on chessdom. chess-results has a cross talbe and such, but as usual for Chinese events, much of the usual data is missing.
May-22-14  waustad: In the Asian Nations Cup, being played in Iran, it is interesting seeing the Chinese and Indian women wearing head scarves. China won the rapid event, with excellent results by Shen Yang with 3/4 and especially by Guo Qi who had a perfect 4/4. The official site with pictures can be found here: and results can be found here:
Jul-21-14  waustad: It is telling that a player of her strength can be left off the team for the olympiad without noticably weakening it. Few countries have that much depth on the women's side. Other than China, only Georgia and Russia come to mind. India without Humpy Koneru is already well below full strength.
Jul-27-14  waustad: SAhe has had an outstanding performance in the Chinese Chess League going 9/10 so far:
Jul-27-14  waustad: With another win in the final round, she netted 25.4 elo for the tournament. This change would put her at #25 in this month's ratings list, a personal best.
Jul-27-14  waustad: Here is a pic from there (as far as I can tell - I don't read Chinese).
Jul-27-14  waustad: Here is an article I can't read at all too:
Jul-28-14  waustad: I wonder if she isn't on the olympic team this year because of the photo work done of her and Denise Frick at the last olympiad. It was totally innocent, but it emphasized how good these women look as women and not as chess robots. In the West the worst that can happen is some twit complains. In China, I have no how that is received.
Aug-24-14  waustad: She's playing in Germany starting tomorrow: http://www.frauenschachfestival-erf...
Aug-28-14  waustad: With her win today, after 5 rounds her performance rating is 2648, so she is on track for a GM norm.
Aug-30-14  waustad: With 5.5/8 after her win today against Lela Javakhishvili, Shen Yang is one win away from her covetted GM norm. If my calculations are right, 6.5 points should do it (somebody posting on chessbomb used a different method and came up with the same result). Tomorrow morning she'll be black against Anastasia Bodnaruk.
Dec-12-14  waustad: Her team Jiangsu won in the Chinese League. She scored 17/22 on the women's board:
Jan-23-15  waustad: Happy b'day! Her results in Las Vegas, where she went 5.5/9 in the Northamerican Open there during December, haven't made it to the FIDE site yet. doesn't yet keep up with the whole list of top 100 men or top 50 women like they do the 2700+ and 2500+ groups, so Wesley So's result is included in the live rating, but Shen Yang's is not from the same tournament.
