Brooklyn born and raised.

Trusts & estates lawyer, ratingless and probably won't have time to get a tournament rating til I retire. If I had to estimate where I'd fall, I'd say ~1900 based on my chess.com games and the informal ones I used to play at Washington Square Park.

Here to learn from the kibitz section and the great masters whose games are preserved for posterity. A big fan of the guess the move resource as well.

Favorite players are Tal, Nezhmetdinov, Fischer, Kupreichik, Gulko, Bronstein, Polgar, Kasparov, Morphy, Pillsbury... Well, for the most part that tells you what I'm into.

   Sep-01-19 Sinquefield Cup (2019) (replies)

Alex Schindler: <bought him half a pint > at the risk of sounding like a fool of a Took, "it comes in half-pints?"

   Aug-28-19 Magnus Carlsen (replies)

Alex Schindler: also how insane is it that this poor guy can go +2 with no losses in a tournament against the world's other top 11, basically, and tie for first, and thus achieve a performance rating 50 pts below his own par, and lose ratings points for it!

   Jul-19-19 S Atalik vs Sax, 1997 (replies)

Alex Schindler: Saturn, not that 20. Bxa1 in that position is losing (whites already crushing), but in my analysis if you are white and your response to fxe6 isn't Ng5, then you are not the tactician who saw the value of 18 Nf3 in the first place. That knight on a1 isn't going anywhere; the ...

   Jul-16-19 Carlsen vs Aronian, 2019

Alex Schindler: What an unbelievable defender Aronian is,though. My God. Drawing this one deserves more credit than some of his wins against Magnus (though I guess it's been some years, hasn't it?)

   Jul-16-19 Carlsen vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2019 (replies)

Alex Schindler: I mean, Magnus is pretty good, but as already noted, it would be very hard for him to go down in history as a guy known by his initials. M(thorn)C just doesn't look right outside of Scandinavia. So, MVL will likely have a greater all time legacy in the annals of people known ...

   May-31-19 Y Ajrapetjan vs Ponomariov, 2009

Alex Schindler: In general, the way he fixed the pawns to keep that bishop worthless was almost painful to watch.

   Jan-15-19 D Gukesh (replies)

Alex Schindler: Someone should add his game against vuppala praneeth, it features the classic Lasker double bishop sac. Like a Greek gift in a Greek gift. Nested Russian Trojan horse doll?

   Jan-15-19 Kosteniuk vs D Gukesh, 2018 (replies)

Alex Schindler: Kid is going places

   Jan-13-19 Georges Koltanowski

Alex Schindler: Wordfunph, thank you for that excerpt! Very entertaining.

   Dec-31-18 Nezhmetdinov vs O Chernikov, 1962

Alex Schindler: I come back to this page a few times a year. Each time, I wonder if this time I will see the sacrifice and think "yes, the compensation seems adequate." Each time, I leave wondering how this game was played by human beings.
