The player that closest comes to my style of play is a young Anatoly Karpov (hence the user name). I tend to play in a universal, positional style but I will never object to a tactical slugfest.

Openings: There are very few openings I have not outed in a tournament game (including the Chigorin), but I hold a special affinity for both sides of the Gruenfeld, Queen's Indian, Ruy Lopez, and Semi-Slav. I prefer openings with the opportunity for both positional and attacking chances.

Middlegame: I have no intention for my opponent to see an endgame, and there a lot of ways to make that happen. I prefer a positional grind, but I'll never object to attacking chances.

Endgame: I have a bad tendency (akin to Fischer) to overly seek clarity and simplicity in the endgame, which often leads to me eschewing the best moves.

I do not play competitive chess anymore since I am an attorney, but I try to keep up on all the tournaments and the latest results. I have found however, that playing Guess-the-Move chess is almost as satisfying as playing a game myself (hence the collections) and is far less time consuming. In the long list of priorities I have to juggle each day, its a great solution to my chess addiction.

The Top-20 Chessplayers of All-Time (IMO):
1) Garry Kasparov
2) Emanuel Lasker
3) Anatoly Karpov
4) Bobby Fischer

Anatoly21: <An Englishman> If 26. Qc5, then perhaps 26...Rc8.

Nov-24-16 Carlsen vs Karjakin, 2016 (replies)

Anatoly21: The only way I see even a chance for white to win is to drop the d-file rook back, slide the knight over to the kingside, and place vertical pressure down the c-file. Probably still a draw, but black does appear seriously threatened by b5 here.

Aug-30-14 Caruana vs Aronian, 2014 (replies)

Anatoly21: Or let the Queen on g6? Okay. Interesting choice Levon.

Apr-09-13 Team White vs Team Black, 2013 (replies)

Anatoly21: team black I find a lot of irony that in a discussion forum expressly premised on the non-use of computers the first advertisement I see is for Deep Fritz. 14 days before White's first move. One wonders how much ...

Mar-29-13 Carlsen vs Ivanchuk, 2013 (replies)

Anatoly21: It looks like a tough call between 13...Nc5 and 13...Nf5. I think I'd play the latter, but it is by no means a simple decision.

Mar-27-13 Carlsen vs Gelfand, 2013 (replies)

Anatoly21: 32.Qf6?! seems to allow 32...Bf5 and its tough for White to convert. I don't get it.

Mar-25-13 Kramnik vs Carlsen, 2013 (replies)

Anatoly21: Now 14.dxe5 Qxe5 15.Bf4 seems the most natural for White.

Anatoly21: Dancing rook time.

Mar-21-13 Kramnik vs Ivanchuk, 2013 (replies)

Anatoly21: <Hesam7> I'm not sure if that's true. 28.Nh4+ Kg7 29.Nf5+ Kf8 30.Qb8+ Nc8 isn't too hard to see, even in time trouble. But maybe you're right and Chucky will avoid complications with a short clock.
