Aunt Jemima
Member since Sep-08-16 · Last seen Mar-01-21
It's been 15 years since I've had the chess bug but it looks like my interest has been rekindled. I like Petrosian, Nimzovich, Fischer, Tal and Kasparov. I hope to maybe play in another tournament sometime in 2017 and break 1800. If I can do that then I'll aim for 2000 but in all honesty it seems like a long shot.

I work as a business analyst. My other interests include hiking, muscle cars, old films & tv, reading and science.

Political Views: I think the world needs more science and less imaginary friends.

Aunt Jemima: I can't understand why white played 25. b4 instead of 25. f5
Nov-10-16 La Bourdonnais vs Jouy, 1838 (replies)
Aunt Jemima: White missed an easy killer move in 14. Nh7+ if 14...Ke8 then 15. Qxg8+ wins the rook and after 15...Ke7 16. Bg5+ white wins the queen too. If 14. Nh7+ Ke7 then 15. Bg5+ wins the queen right away and then mate soon. How could a great player like La Bourdonnais miss this?

Nov-09-16 Szen vs Horwitz, 1851 (replies)
Aunt Jemima: What an aggressive, angry bunch of nerds. Look, Horwitz can't be one of the top players of the 1800s. It's just that we have his games. He really sucks almost all of the time. Bad chess. I love the old masters in general. It's just that Horwitz really does suck. Class B player I

Aunt Jemima: 7. Bxa6 looks weak to me as white has trouble castling. Perhaps 7. Qe2 would have been better. 30. Ba3 is a blunder of coffee house proportions. I was thinking maybe 30. Kd2 instead.
Nov-03-16 Horwitz vs Bird, 1851 (replies)
Aunt Jemima: Horwitz finally plays a good game. Starting with the nice move 16. Nd5 white conducted the attack efficiently. Bird was creative when he played 25...d5 allowing black to castle on the next move by white followed up strongly with d6!. Bravo Mr. Horwirz. Too bad he couldn't play ...
   Nov-01-16 Bird vs Anderssen, 1851
Aunt Jemima: Bird racks one up against the great Anderson by pressing his attack very carefully. Nice play. It looked a little hairy after 38...Rxf3 but old Bird had it worked out.
Nov-01-16 Staunton / Barnes vs Bird / Owen, 1858 (replies)
Aunt Jemima: Bird punishes the renown Staunton for slow development. For once Mr. Bird played a fairly solid game.
Oct-29-16 Horwitz vs Bird, 1851 (replies)
Aunt Jemima: 20. Re2 smacks of weakness. After this and a few other suspect moves, Horwitz manages to blunder back the exchange. I really can't see the difference in strength between Horwitz and an old C class player today, despite Chess Metric's evaluation.
