   Jul-31-25 G Tringov vs V Urdinov, 1998 (replies)

Cecco: In 2006, it was POTD on a Tuesday, but it was considered too difficult for that day of the week. Perhaps in twenty years, it could be repeated on a Wednesday.

   Jul-13-25 J A Blanco vs Capablanca, 1901 (replies)

Cecco: To an amateur with an engine, it may seem strange that a genius like Capablanca, even at thirteen, would waste the victory with a clear knight advantage. Not only because of the aforementioned 62. ... Kc3 instead of 62. ... Kxa3, which however leads to a complicated follow-up, with a ...

   Jul-06-25 Swiercz vs V Kunin, 2009 (replies)

Cecco: I can scientifically prove what <watwinc> (and <pauldo>, and <perfidious>) said: I solved it.

   Jun-29-25 E Handoko vs Speelman, 1994 (replies)

Cecco: <WannaBe>, it refers to the title of the famous song "The ballad of John and Yoko". I agree: great pun.

Jun-22-25 B Adhiban vs Iturrizaga Bonelli, 2023 (replies)

Cecco: According to this engine, 25. Qd3 is a mistake compared to 25. Rd5 (as observed by <Honza Cervenka>) and the beautiful queen sacrifice 26. Qd8+ is a mistake compared to 26. Bxb4.

   Jun-21-25 D Bocharov vs A Mokshanov, 2015

Cecco: <Louben>, you're right. Black was probably short on time.

   Jun-15-25 A Valsecchi vs N Navalgund, 2011 (replies)

Cecco: In the final position, for skilled players, is it so obvious that Black can resign?

Jun-14-25 Karpov vs Kamsky, 1996 (replies)

Cecco: Thanks, <MissScarlett>. <offramp>, <Sally Simpson>: I apologize, but I can't help but like the pun. Now that "Tuffy" has a meaning (at least for native English speakers), it seems even better. Of course, I had also really liked the TV series.

   May-29-25 B Adhiban vs E Roebers, 2023 (replies)

Cecco: <ultrausurper>, thanks for the explanation. It's a good pun, then.

May-16-25 Zvjaginsev vs Topalov, 1995 (replies)

Cecco: In the final position, after 48. ... Kh3, this engine suggests 49. Kf2, which seems like a big mistake because of 49. ... Rd2+ 50. Kxf3 Rxa2. Does anyone know if White can win? In any case, 49. Bxf3 keeps the pawn and should be winning.
