I was an active player in the 1990's, rated in the 2100's, and occasionally play in tournaments these days. I've won a couple of club championship events and was the top 19 year old at the 1987 US Junior Open.

EdwardChisam: I know that the overall verdict of the line is that white gets a clear advantage, bordering on winning, whether you try 9... c6 or 9.... Qxc1. However, this is a good gamble for OTB as black if you really know the lines, who is going to figure this all out if they don't know ...

   Feb-12-08 Fischer vs E Stepans, 1957 (replies)

EdwardChisam: Weadley, 14. Nxf6 Bxf6 15. Bd5 and the a8 rook will be lost. Is this the question you were asking?

Feb-12-08 Fischer vs A Di Camillo, 1957 (replies)

EdwardChisam: But the simple minded 46. Rb1 Rb8 47. Be5 wins easily as well.

Feb-12-08 Fischer vs Bisguier, 1959 (replies)

EdwardChisam: I think you're right, it looks great. 36.... Bxg3 37. Bxg3 Nxg3 38. Kxg3 Nxe4+ allows black to unload on c1.

Feb-08-08 Zappa vs Crafty, 2005 (replies)

EdwardChisam: I saw Ba2+ winning, and all of it's ramifications, in about 5 seconds. I didn't think of Re1 first, though.

Feb-08-08 Fischer vs Benko, 1963 (replies)

EdwardChisam: It is to Fischer's credit that he beat such a strong player as Larsen in his prime by 11 wins to 2.

   Feb-08-08 Frank Marshall (replies)

EdwardChisam: Thank goodness for Shipley. His thorough documentation settled this matter beyond any doubt.

   Feb-08-08 C Forbes vs Fischer, 1992 (replies)

EdwardChisam: It couldn't have been good for Forbes to play Bf4 and Bd2 within the first 8 moves of this game. I see no compelling reason not to play 8. Bd3 and develop a fresh piece. If I had ever had a chance to play Fischer, the focus would have been on development, development, ...

Feb-08-08 Lipnitsky vs Petrosian, 1951 (replies)

EdwardChisam: I thought Lipnisky had a scary safe advantage coming out of the opening, but Petrosian outplayed him anyway.

   Feb-04-08 Reshevsky vs E D Duncan, 1921 (replies)

EdwardChisam: Tough break for Reshevsky. Instead of 16. Bxc6, he has a half a dozen winning moves. For example, after 16. Nb3, he's up two pawns, and black can't crack through. But, this was a simul, he must have moved quickly and missed the trap.
