Member since Jan-29-03 · Last seen Mar-28-09
My name is Steve. I live in the Midwest. I have played chess for 30 years-(and I should be much better than I am by now!) I was lucky enough to start playing chess about the time of Spassky vs. Fischer. And now Spassky is one of my favorite players, along with Kasparov. And my favorite opening is obvious-although I am venturing more into the d4 lines.

   Sep-10-03 NN vs G Geshev, 1935 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: OK I will ask- what is legal mate? Have to admit I have never heard of it.

   Sep-05-03 D Hermann vs Charousek, 1896 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: I had Bf1 as well and if...22Qxf1 then black plays Qh2# and if 22Kxf1 then Q-h1#? I am missing something?

   Sep-04-03 Morphy vs A Meek, 1857 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: Obvious ending true- but still a pretty combination. But then again, I have no objectivity because the Evan's is an offshoot of my obviously favorite opening. It is curious that Black didn't resign, but in those days they often played on until the bitter end.

   Aug-11-03 Denker vs M L Hanauer, 1936

Giuoco Piano Man: I have heard the term "removal of the guard" before in this situation. I thought it was called that as well.

Jul-17-03 Shabanov vs Kramnik, 1990 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: It was obviously a blunder. Maybe time trouble?

   May-31-03 Mecking vs C Juarez, 1972 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: Nice finish! White can leave his Queen "hanging" for 2 moves and still win!

   Apr-25-03 Kasparov vs N R McDonald, 1986 (replies)

Giuoco Piano Man: Now I see it after White takes the Queen. Thanks! When you just don't see it- it drives you nuts!
