Immortal Gambit

I love to try gambits, even those that are unsound. I like to see dicey sacrifices and brilliant combinations on the board. My favorite player is Paul Morphy.

May-19-22 McDonnell vs La Bourdonnais, 1834

Immortal Gambit: I have to assume this commentary was redacted, as there's no way Morphy would have used algebraic notation.

   May-02-22 J O'Hanlon vs B Goulding Brown, 1914 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: Nice configuration on move 21.

   May-02-22 Tal vs B Dudley, 1964 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: You may have to be from a certain generation to catch the pun. "Dudley Demented" is the title to the opening chapter of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

   Apr-19-22 D Cooper vs O Sarapu, 1970 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: Anyone who isn't amused by today's pun is just holding a Barnaby grudge.

   Apr-10-22 NN vs F Rhine, 2021 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: A certain politician from Alabama would not be happy if he saw this page.

   Apr-06-22 Fine vs R Greene, 1946

Immortal Gambit: Anyone here seen Bill and Ted 2? Death: I believe Colonel Mustard did it in the study with the candle stick. Bill/Ted: You lose, Death. It was Professor Plum. Death: Best 3 out of 5!

   Apr-06-22 NN vs F Rhine, 2022 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: Doesn't the name "George Wallace" tip anyone off? "Segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever."

   Mar-30-22 E Sokolov vs Rushnikov, 1964 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: Eerily similar? V Sokolov vs Rusnikov, 1966

   Mar-22-22 Capablanca - Kostic (1919) (replies)

Immortal Gambit: I understand it's from 1919, but the number of unnecessary appositives, appositives to an appositive, and subordinate clauses is simply poor writing, regardless of the idiom of the day.

   Mar-15-22 W Martz vs Miles, 1976 (replies)

Immortal Gambit: Excellent game and pun. I at first though it was about "the ideas of Marx", which would have been an appropriate adjuration to many of this generation, but then I considered today's date.
