Marcelo Brasileiro
Member since Mar-04-09 · Last seen Mar-26-13
Born in Rio de Janeiro, 06-27-1966, learned very early, but played my first tournament only when I was 24 years old in São Paulo. Since 1995 living and working in Brasília, partly giving chess classes, won at the end of 1995 my first chess prize (12th place at an accumulative score quick chess tournament circuit). In 1999 won my first correspondence chess tournament, with 3 wins and 3 draws, not losing a single game. I like mostly the games from the romantics and the post-romantics that played mainly the tournaments of the 2nd half of the 19th century.

Marcelo Brasileiro: Folks, why does the Wikipedia only in German mention that he was a chess master and the version in other languages (English, for example) tell that he was "only" a chess player?

   May-01-10 Harry Nelson Pillsbury (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: I remember that he did an interesting 2 bishop mate against an unknown opponent, that played White, and sacrificing his Queen. Unfortunately I couldn't find at the present time the position. Does anybody know it?

   Jan-17-10 Arved Heinrichsen (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: A correction: the first game wasn't played by Arved. Being born in 1876, how could he play in 1863? A better precision for his birth and death dates: * 23rd November, 1876 † 23rd August, 1900 This information is taken from Vlastimil Fiala's book "11th German Chess ...

   Jan-17-10 Hermann Keidanski (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: I remember that Ludwig Bachmann included in his Steinitz's biography a game that Keidanski defeated Steinitz. I can get it for you in some days, OK?

   Jan-01-10 Franz Gutmayer (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: I know that he only won a game at Berlin SV Centrum in 1897.

Nov-16-09 Joao de Souza Mendes Jr. (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: Souza is according the old ortography, Sousa according to the new one.

   Oct-18-09 Max Lange (replies)

Marcelo Brasileiro: The game that Lange mated Schierstedt with his Queen's Knight can be considered in a certain manner a tribute to Anderssen's Immortal.
