Nostalgia: <alphee: I got the first moves but do not understand logic of 28.... Rh6. Is it just to meet a possible 29.exf6?> 29. exf7, yes. If black doesn't take the pawn (or if he had played 28. ... f6??), it's mate in 1, unless he had placed the rook on h6 previously. -Joe

Nostalgia: I saw Qxc8 and Rxc8 of course, but didn't see white's compensation after black blocked with the knight. Missed Nc6. Glad so many of you found it extraordinarily simple, though. Guess I'm just a super-patzer. -Joe

Nostalgia: Hudson, Halldor: I learned a while ago that iamverywellatchess is only here to try to egg people on with nonsense arguments, like the one he's sucked you into. Just ignore him/her, and we'll all be better off :) As for the puzzle, I finally saw this one. Not right away, but a lot ...

Nostalgia: <schnarre: Hmmnnnn....wonder if there's any Guns n' Roses fans on this site....> I'm sure there are some Beatles fans, too ;) -Joe

Nostalgia: hmm...I got up to 38. Qf2, didn't see ... Rf2!. Beautiful! Ah, I see I'm not the only one. Misery loves company :D -Joe

Nostalgia: hehehe I like Monday puzzles :)
   Feb-15-06 D B Gurevich vs C Hansen, 1986 (replies)
Nostalgia: Well, I got the spirit of this one, but not the letter. I came up with Re7 or Re8, not realizing capturing the black rook would result in stalemate. And I was so excited! I'll take 1/2-1/2 for that one :) I'm still very happy that I saw the whole thing. -Joe
   Feb-14-06 G Barcza vs Simagin, 1949 (replies)
Nostalgia: Two in a row?!? Somebody's trying to make me feel better about my skills :) Here's a topic of conversation: I'm generally quite good at chess puzzles (by 'good' I mean well above my general level of play). When I'm in a game, I have a lot more trouble seeing the moves, even in a ...

Nostalgia: Wooohooo! First time I got the whole continuation in my head. I'm so proud *sniffle* -Joe
   Feb-10-06 Velimirovic vs A Bradvarevic, 1962 (replies)
Nostalgia: True. My point was even if the white bishop couldn't get to c5 (the d-pawn in the way, for example), defending the pawn with the Queen still seems a worse idea than pushing the g-pawn. The way I see it, after 23. Bh6 Bg6, the queen can't come to e8. White will win the g-pawn by ...
