I'm a chess player from Israel looking to constantly improve.

My favourite player is Karpov.
Other players I like are Smyslov, Capablanca, Petrosian, Carlsen, Kramnik, Rubinstein, Flohr, Anand, Gelfand, Polgar and Svidler, among others. I also very much enjoy Fischer's chess, though I can't possibly say I'm a fan of the man.

My favourite style of play is positional and strategic. I can appreciate attacking tactical play as well but it's positional chess that excites me and what makes chess beautiful for me. The art of accumulating small advantages one after another and slowly squeezing the life out of a desperate opponent intrigues me. For me, tactical style with complex combinations shows an incredible eye for tactical opportunities, but positional play shows the use of logic, thought and formulation of a deep plan.

My favourite player described this in the best possible way:

"Let us say the game may be continued in two ways: one of them is a beautiful tactical blow that gives rise to variations that don't yield to precise calculation; the other is clear positional pressure that leads to an endgame with microscopic chances of victory.... I would choose the latter without thinking twice. If the opponent offers keen play I don't object; but in such cases I get less satisfaction, even if I win, than from a game conducted according to all the rules of strategy with its ruthless logic."

- Anatoly Karpov

Psihadal: <The Kings Domain: Unless Kasparov let her win...> Yeah, i don't think so. And this is Kasparov after all.
   Sep-20-15 Judit Polgar (replies)
Psihadal: <The Kings Domain: Probably the best and most well-known female player of the game.> I never understood why people call Judit Polgar "probably the best female chess player in history". She obviously IS the strongest female player ever, no one can argue with that.

Psihadal: I probably should have posted the entire variation for those who are unfamiliar with it or don't remember it: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 b5 7. Bb3 d6 8. c3 O-O 9.h3 Bb7 10. d4 Re8 11. Nbd2 Bf8 12. a4 h6 13. Bc2 exd4 14. cxd4 Nb4 15. Bb1 c5 16. d5 Nd7

Psihadal: <Travis Bickle: If I could locate you right about now I'd show I'm a lot worse than that! I've been on this fu@%*^$ site for 6 yeras and you ignored every comment I ever said to you. So FU@% off.> How is it that you haven't been banned from this site for 6 years now??

Psihadal: His channel is, in my opinion, the best chess channel on youtube. He has a very clear way to explain chess, be it in live blitz videos, game kibitizing or opening analysis. Also has a very refined sense for position and of strategy which makes his videos very instructive to learn ...

Psihadal: <vergilam> 8...dxc6 and the d6 bishop is defended by the queen. White gives up an important centre pawn and giving black a free position with easy development of the queen's knight.

Psihadal: <TomScott: Why did Karpov at move 28 play 28. Rc7+Rd7. What's wrong with 28. Bxb7 ?> It fails to 28...Rb4. If anything, then 28. Qxb7 but then simply 28...Qxb7 29. Bxb7 Rd1 30. Kf1 Nd2+ 31. Kg2 Rxf1 32. Rxd2.

Psihadal: <diceman: ...but I can say he refused to face Fischer.> I thought I already heard it all from Fischer fanboys - but Karpov refusing to face Fischer instead of the other way around is a new one.

Psihadal: <morfishine> All very true. I've always said that if there is one thing that works in Fischer's favour in this match is that Karpov was still on the rise and not in full strength like the dominating world champion he was in the 80's. However, on the other hand you have to ...
