   Jan-07-20 V Zvjaginsev vs I Schneider, 2015 (replies)

Revenant: I've played the Colorado Counter as black since 1993 in both over-the-board tournaments and online blitz. For readers at my modest level (currently 1900 on chess.com), I can heartily recommend it as a quite serviceable opening. I'm always happy to see my opponents play 4. Nh4, ...

Revenant: When I was 11 years old I ate an entire nuclear reactor in pieces. It took me 6 weeks and by that time I was so radioactive that I killed my poor pet goldfish just by standing next to the aquarium. R.I.P., Goldie. You are missed.

Feb-02-14 Sokolsky vs Kotov, 1949 (replies)

Revenant: This "Kotov" person is actually Bela Lugosi's twin. They were separated at birth.

   Sep-08-13 I Cheparinov vs Sutovsky, 2013 (replies)

Revenant: I love this game. It shows what chess is all about, taking risks and having fun. Stockfish agrees that 16. g4! was the best move on the board. It also approves of the forcing sequence that followed, up until black's understandable mistake 22... Rd1+?! (just one move too early). ...

   Aug-23-13 W Bialas vs Schwarz, 1953 (replies)

Revenant: Stockfish says white missed the crushing 15. f5! (+9.13 at depth 30), e.g. 15... gxf5 16. Rxf5 Qxf5 17. Ng4 with the familiar fork/mate idea. Count on computers to turn the classics upside-down. In the game, after 15. Bc4, black could have held on with 15... Qf6 16. Nd3 Bf5 (-1.25 ...

   Jul-05-13 J A Curdo vs C Chase, 1997

Revenant: If 25... Nd5, then 26. Bxd5 wins easily, so maybe you meant on the previous move? If 24... Nd5, then 25. c4 wins the pinned knight, since 25... Rdc8 (hoping to net the c1 bishop) is parried by 26. Bd2. Black's only other try at move 25 was 25... e5, but then 26. dxe5 is crushing ...

   Oct-16-12 Kamsky vs M Bartel, 2012 (replies)

Revenant: Maybe Gata was channeling Michael Basman in this game. It looks like something out of "The Killer Grob". :-)

   Oct-12-12 Jakovenko vs Bologan, 2012

Revenant: In case anyone's wondering why black couldn't play 40... Qxb6, it's because of 41. Nxd5 Nxd5 42. Qc4 collecting the pinned black knight, e.g. 42... Qa5 43. Bg2, or 42... Qc5 43. Qxc5 dxc5 44. Bc4. (Precision is required. In that same variation, 42. Qa2? is spoiled by 42... Qd4!, ...

   Jun-26-12 J H Donner vs Korchnoi, 1971 (replies)

Revenant: White is lost because his king is unfortunately on a forking square: 54. Nh6 Nc5 55. Nf5+ Kd7! 56. Ne3 Nd3! 57. Rxc2 Ne1+ 58. K-moves Nxc2 If the king were on h2 instead of g2, it would be a draw. (Engine: Stockfish)
