Dec-05-09 Fine vs Flohr, 1938
|
Rogon: Though a good game to study, there are certainly errors. 11. Nb5! would be much more aggressive. 14. ... dxc4 is a huge mistake, ... Nb4 almost equalizes the game. 17. Nc5! is crushing. 20. Nb5 was not necessary, the sacrifice 20. Rxd7! is even more effective immediately. Flohr also ... |

Rogon: Dear Santa,
Please, please, all I want for next year is being able to see more than one move ahead. Yours, Roggie.

Sep-01-06 Najdorf vs S Schweber, 1968
|
Rogon: After 20... Qf8, why not 21. Bxg7 Qxg7 22. Qxc8+, winning rook and pawn for bishop? |

Jun-29-06 Siegbert Tarrasch

Rogon: Of course, after 1... Rc7, there is perhaps a problem with 2. b5!! |

Jun-20-06 K Tsarouhas vs Kotronias, 2005
|
Rogon: Missed this one completely. Didn't "get" the fact that the queen could be put on Qa5 and Qb5 with no fear of being taken. This is a hole in my chess tactic skill - thanks for pointing it out to me chessgames.com! |

Jun-13-06 Adams vs I Papaioannou, 2000
|
Rogon: No, after 33... gxf6 34. Ng4?? Qf4! The threat is 34. Qg4+ Kh7 35. Kf2, when mate is unavoidable. So, the pawn cannot take, but then there are no moves. E.g. 33... Rc2 34. Qg5 g6 35. Qh6 and mates. The best try is: 33... Qd8 34. Bxd8 Rcxd8 35. Kf2 but it is nevertheless hopeless. |

Dec-06-05 Morphy vs J Thompson, 1859
|
Rogon: Also, remember that in tactical positions, always consider checks, captures and threats, usually in that order. In this case, I started with checks from the queen, and Qc6+ came first. With forced moves it was very quickly solved. |

Sep-29-05 J Rukavina vs Z Topalovic, 2001
|
Rogon: This game was clearly white's until 28. Bxd7? Instead 28. Nxg6+ gives a clear advantage to white when the a1-h8 diagonal comes under massive pressure, the danger being f4! The other thing is that this game was clearly black's in the end-game, but it was wasted away. 64... Ke6?? draws ... |
