I'm a musician in New York and an enthusiastic chess player. I guess my rating to be around 1600-1700, though it could be weaker. I enjoy the psychological aspects of chess much more than theory. I aspire to play similarly to Petrosian and Karpov, but I greatly enjoy attacking chess as well.

SBB: Happy to have found this one rather quickly. The combination of the Queen and Pawn on the seventh rank in that position was clearly desirable, so the only question was how to remove the intervening pawn on c7. The answer followed quickly after that realization.

SBB: Wow, I actually saw this one in less than a minute. That was unexpected.

SBB: I love Monday puzzles. They make me feel like I can actually solve Chessgames' POTD. Today's Queen sacrifice was easy peasy.
Feb-10-13 K Van Leens Dijkstra vs J Penrose, 1983 (replies)
SBB: Tough one. I actually did see Bxf3, but was skeptical because I didn't see the continuation after 31. Kf2.

SBB: Interesting puzzle. I missed this one, looking instead at Nf5, which blocks the mating attack and, after White moves the Queen to safety, at the very least wins the light square bishop and prepares several mate threats. Black would be completely winning. But I had missed the in between ...

SBB: I actually got this one, I'm thoroughly surprised I found it.
   Jun-09-09 Garry Kasparov (replies)
SBB: It certainly is clear that Kaspy only speaks two, I was just trying to dispel the thought that 15 was impossible. A quote of which I can not find, so I guess I imagined it. I really shouldn't study in the middle of the night.
   Apr-21-09 I Sokolov vs T Middelburg, 2009 (replies)
SBB: Lol, is it bad that I chose Rg7# instead of Rh6#? Nasty combo man.
Mar-20-09 M Umansky vs The World, 2009 (replies)
SBB: I voted for Qa5. It feels so much more dynamic than a5. I guess my feeling is that while a5 is solid, it is also very drawish. Qa5 is also solid, but seems to create more chances for an interesting game. I've seen some analysis here that rates it somewhat poorly, but after long ...

SBB: Congrats to Kramnik. Tricky little ending there.
