Jan-02-25 World Blitz Championship (2024) (replies)

Scarecrow: <Teyss> I like your option <(d)>, although I have to admit I can easily see it leading to the same practical result you named as a drawback for <(c)>, i.e. cautious/dull play by both from the start.

Scarecrow: <re: Gukesh's team> Also Vincent Keymer

Dec-12-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

Scarecrow: The saddest thing is that Ding did this to himself. Fair play to Gukesh, he did have more chances throughout the match, but at the same time, I did not think he demonstrated superiority. Then came today.

   Dec-09-24 Leko vs Karpov, 2001

Scarecrow: In the live commentary of Game 12 of the Ding - Gukesh World Championship Match (2024) , Peter Leko recounted that during this game, Karpov got into terrible time trouble and had to make something like 7 moves in 7 seconds to save this draw.

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

Scarecrow: If I were in Ding's shoes, I would probably try 2. e4 in order to create a somewhat complicated game.

Dec-03-24 D Gukesh vs Ding Liren, 2024 (replies)

Scarecrow: I was prepared to witness a Ding meltdown like others in the previous match or his loss on time in Game 3 here, but he kept his composure and never gave up. Must be heartbreaking for Gukesh though, to miss out on such a chance. Once again we can probably mention the detrimental ...

Nov-30-24 D Gukesh vs Ding Liren, 2024 (replies)

Scarecrow: <FSR: Having no increment for the first 40 moves is weird.> I don't know what FIDE's justification is for using that kind of time control, but I suspect the aim is to create tension by increasing the risk of time trouble. Some kind of appeal to online appetites for drama. I ...

Nov-27-24 D Gukesh vs Ding Liren, 2024 (replies)

Scarecrow: It's been a long, long time since I actively followed chess games live here on <chessgames.com>. I am happy that the site maintained its spirit while other chess portals have, in my opinion, decidedly went down the path of ens***fication, to use a popular term. It's very ...

   May-27-24 Peter Leko

Scarecrow: According to the news (in Hungarian: https://hvg.hu/sport/20240527_sakk-... ), Peter Leko is going to participate in the upcoming Chess Olympiad this year as part of the Hungarian national team, alongside Richard Rapport.

Apr-13-23 Nepomniachtchi - Ding World Championship Match (2023) (replies)

Scarecrow: <jphamlore: Fischer was the last player who could afford to have an ideology about how to play chess and still win a world championship.> That's a fascinating observation. Could you elaborate a bit on what you believe Fischer's ideology was?
