Feb-24-21 Alekhine vs Capablanca, 1938 (replies)

V Geriakov: What really surprised me is that this game had not been a GOTD yet.

   Feb-10-21 Cherniaev vs G Lock, 2008 (replies)

V Geriakov: The way white played the opening sure did not look like he was on his way to winning the game. Smooth final attack, though although around black could have castled queenside or even kept his king in the centre giving white only defensive choices.

Feb-08-21 Bologan vs Caruana, 2008 (replies)

V Geriakov: There's no denying that Bologan that day was simply too good for Fabi.

Feb-03-21 Spielmann vs J van den Bosch, 1935 (replies)

V Geriakov: Spielmann defeated a-la-Spielmann.

   Jan-30-21 D Allan vs L Day, 1980 (replies)

V Geriakov: Seems to me like the position after white's 12th move was winnable for him/her.

   Jan-29-21 Sarin Nihal vs Vachier-Lagrave, 2020 (replies)

V Geriakov: imao, black's MVL's plan of ...a5-a4 is somewhat mistaken. A simpler, more passive defence would, again imao, have held the game without much difficulties, although of course, Nihal is a brilliant positional player + endgame expert and MVL is not the type to play typically bland ...

   Jan-27-21 L Jiang vs P Cramling, 2004 (replies)

V Geriakov: Clever one! I never thought white was an 11-year-old kid beating the GM with such smooth positional chess.

Jan-25-21 Kramnik vs Zsuzsa Polgar, 1994 (replies)

V Geriakov: A "complete" game on Kramnik's part. Nothing more, nothing less.

   Jan-24-21 J F Malta vs Bird, 1880 (replies)

V Geriakov: This game doesn't even seem GOTD-worthy. White's play was simply hideous, even if given that it was played in 1880. Good 2-name pun though, although I don't get its implication.

Jan-17-21 Arencibia Rodriguez vs S Kamuhangire, 1990 (replies)

V Geriakov: Extremely well-played performance on black's part, a true "pawn power chess" scenario and a more than GOTD-worthy game. The pun doesn't get me though, so someone please help by explaining it a bit if you understood.
