Sep-28-06  twinlark: HI <Willem>

Just a quick note to you during the wee small hours of your morning (I've just had lunch - don't you love the global information economy).

The summaries of the moves we've been workshopping will be posted at 1300 EDT (1800 GMT), hopefully within a few moments of each other to provide Team White participants with some comparisons of analysis so far.

When White's move is officially made at 1400 EDT (1900 GMT), then we need to look at Black's possible replies. <RandomVisitor>'s Rybka analysis which is posted in his bio on his forum, says that there are 10 or more perfectly good moves for Black.

I propose that we divide up the Black moves between the workshops. If you're agreeable to this, I'll post the resulting allocation on my bio and on the main page shortly afterwards.

In other words, we should split the devil's advocacy between the various workshops until Black responds to our 12th move.

So if you'd like to do this, and you're in a position to do so, please think about which moves you'd like to host and let me know on my forum after 1400 EDT when White's move is made.

Could i also recommend that you temporarily amend your bio to reflect the present role of your forum as an analysis workshop.

Thanks for the hard work you've put into this so far, and I look forward to you and rest of the team keeping up the great start we've made.

I hope you enjoyed the Floriade link I provided.

Oct-03-06  twinlark: Hi Willem

Welcome back.

As you've probably seen, there's a healthy pool of forums that members have kindly volunteered for possible use as variation workshops. This builds up some leeway for our hardworking workshop owners, and on occasions eg when there's a simple recapture, there may be little or no reason to designate or workshop.

However, there'll be an ongoing need for the Devil's Advocate workshop. <YouRang> has kindly made his site available for this purpose, and it has only just begun to be used. Could I ask if you're still willing to spend some time on this interesting approach?

On another note, Black may move at 1400 EDT and we'll need to set up workshops: no more than two in the case of 13...Nxd3, but maybe three or four in case of 13...Bd7.

13...Qc7 and 13...Nh5 are considered outside possibilities, but there are some options ready if either of these moves is made.

I hope you can get to the team meeting on my forum at 1400EDT. There won't be one of course, if Black doesn't move.

Willem Wallekers: Hi twinlark, yes i'm back,
still willing to play the devil's advocate when available, which is mostly on wednesdays.
On other days of the week i usually can tune in, look around, make a post or two and vote, but no serious analysis, i'm afraid. But right now it's our turn, so i concentrate on our next move. Voted for Bg5, busy analyzing it, but not gaining much support until now. Plan to post my results tomorrow around 5 pm american time where most of our teammates dwell i guess.
Oct-09-06  twinlark: Hi Willem. Looks like the workshops can kick off in serious discussion mode now that the Black Night's been recaptured and GMAN has finally decided to use his full 48 hours.

I'd like to ask whether you're still available for workshopping?

Oct-10-06  twinlark: 1440 EDT

<Willem> Could I ask you to analyse and host discussion and debate on the merits of 16.Bb6...? Could I also prevail on you to post this information in your profile along with a FEN diagram of this position?

Oct-10-06  twinlark: Willem! In that case, please take on 16.Rac1. There won't be a problem finding a home for 16.Bb6.

OhioChessFan: For all forum hosts. Just a reminder of the easy way to find all discussion of the move you are hosting: Click on the "Kibitz" tab at the upper right corner of the page. At the very bottom of the page that brings up, you'll see a box labelled "Search Kibitzing". Type your move in that box. For example, I simply typed in "Rae1". That brought up all recent posts including that move. Watch for which occur in TWVAN page and copy/paste them to your forum. I also try to make 100% clear who makes a specific statement, and who each responding post is addressed to.

Willem: Sorry to jerk you around like this but could you post your 16.Bb6 analysis on User: Chess Classics 's forum, and take on 16.Rac1 in your own. If you want to continue work on Bb6, please do so, but could I suggest doing so in CC's forum?

CC's gone off to school and can't change his profile for a while.

Oct-10-06  twinlark: Just missed getting here before you. Sorry.

Oct-12-06  twinlark: <Willem> Thanks for all your work during the run up to White's 16th move.

We should have 48 hours before GMAN makes his next move. You may wish to have your preference for workshopping White's 17th move ready by the time this happens.

I'm assuming you want to continue to workshop. Please let me know either way.

I'm trying to have things in place as soon as possible after Black moves, and everyone in position beforehand will speed this up greatly.

Willem Wallekers: Busy at the moment, but 17. exf5 is too obvious to analyze imo.
Oct-14-06  twinlark: Hi Willem...yes, but we're moving the analysis down the line a bit to use our spare time to explore our later options in a bit more depth.

We're also setting up a Positional Analysis Workshop in <Domdaniel>'s forum.

Hope to catch up with you when you've some free time.

Willem Wallekers: OhioChessFan: I'm curious, if that was you who got the shoutout from the 6 Degrees of Kasparov page for finding a 14 degree? Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about, so it must have been somebody else.
Sep-10-07  Dr. Siggy: <Willem Wallekers on The World vs G. J. Timmerman>: <Yesterday on page 413 I challenged you to show me any convincing white victory from 8.d5 e5 9.exd6 Bxe6 10.Qd3 (the mainline thusfar) Nbd7.>

<<Twinlark> came up with 4 games which I studied carefully until I had them all refuted in favour of black and was editing a long comprehensive post with diagrams and all, when I got hit by a power outage <insert obscene and profane language>>.

<Instead of doing the work all over again, let me just say that I share <Dr. Siggy>'s opinion that 8.d5 e5 9.exd6 Bxe6 10.Qd3 leads to nowhere. So now I vote tactically for Qb3.>

Don't you bother! As Dr. Tarrasch used to say, <The World> is playing for... the loss!

I'm going to stick around the game until the 10th move. If the majority votes for 10. Qd3, I think I'll be out: I play Chess for FUN, not for blood (specially my own blood).

Of course, nobody will miss me - but, at least, I'll be with my whole skin alive...
