I am a teenage amateur with a USCF rating of ~1500. I have played for just over 2 years with a year-and-a-half of that being coached once a week by Yury Shulman (as my name suggests). Peter <Chesstoplay> is my main coach and organizer of everything my team does. He is not only a fine coach, but an amazing person who has a deep love for chess.

Here are two of my favorite puzzles. The first one I created and is very interesting, though it may not be very instructional, but the second one is very instructional.

Black to play and checkmate:

White to play and receive a positive score:

WARNING: ANSWERS TO PUZZLES ARE RIGHT BELOW THIS POINT

First Puzzle: 1...Nd7 and 2...Be4 wins (first two moves are interchangable). Play may be: 1...Nd7 2.Bh2 Be4 (...Kxh2 b8=Q+) 3. Bg3 (Bb8 Nb6#) Kg2 followed by advancing the black king to a6 (you cannot take the bishop at all or white will be stalemated) and ...Bxb7#.

Second puzzle: Any of 20 moves will secure a positive score, assuming accurate moves are played by white. Note that a positive score is either 1-0 or 1/2-1/2. The only move that loses is knocking over your own king. Also losing is not making any move until the time on your clock runs out.
