Occasional club player, based in Germany but originally from the UK. Besides western chess I am also interested in Japanese chess (shogi) and Chinese chess (xiangqi). In real life I am involved in linguistics, logic and computing, and my hobbies, besides chess, include history, astronomy, classical music, curries and good wine.
My nickname comes from the colours of my favourite football team, but it seemed kind of suitable for chess as well (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/19...) :-)
Like several others around here (User: GameKnot) I play correspondence games on-line at GameKnot, under the name "orangutan".
My chessforum is now open again for business. I intend it to be used chiefly for the following areas:
1. My favourite openings, especially the Open Sicilian (will shortly put up a list of others).
2. Endings. These have always been a great weakness in my play, and I am trying to work on them. To my surprise, I am finding them interesting.
3. Almost anything to do with Russia and Eastern Europe.
4. Game theory and chess variants (especially traditional Asian variants such as shogi and xiangqi).

I have started to make a collection of links to bookmark certain common positions in Opening Explorer, for my convenience but hopefully for others as well. It can be found at Tabiya chessforum.
